ChildHospice charity The Association of Children's Hospices (ACH) is a registered charity which brings together over 40 voluntary sector children's hospice services throughout the UK dedicated to the care of children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families. Children's hospices exist to provide specialist care and support for children with life-limiting conditions - and their families - from the moment of diagnosis onwards. They provide a range of care and services within their teams, under one roof, in a friendly home from home environment. All services are free. |

Childline Children's Charity ChildLine is the free helpline for children and young people in the UK. Children and young people can call us on 0800 11 11 to talk about any problem - our counsellors are always here to help you sort it out. Since it was launched in 1986, ChildLine has saved children's lives, found refuges for children in danger on the streets, and given hope to thousands of children who believed no one else cared for them. ChildLine has now counselled well over one million children and young people. ChildLine is the UK's free, 24-hour helpline for children in distress or danger. Trained volunteer counsellors comfort, advise and protect children and young people who may feel they have nowhere else to turn. Almost 1,400 volunteers provide a counselling service, supervised by a team of professional supervisors and managers. Every day around 4,500 children call ChildLine, but lack of funds means that only 2,500 of them will get through to our counsellors for comfort, advice and protection. |

Great Ormond Street Hospital Great Ormond Street Hospital treats more than 90,000 patients each year - children who are suffering from the rarest, most complex and often life-threatening conditions. They receive the best medical care that money can buy, but the NHS funding cannot meet these ever-rising costs, and that's where the hospital's charity, GOSHCC, steps in. GOSH - the Hospital Great Ormond Street Hospital is the largest paediatric research and training centre in Britain. All areas of the hospital take part in research, including a particular focus on research by nurses and professionals allied to medicine. Among their many achievements, our researchers have devised mini-bone marrow transplants for children too sick to have a full-blown BMT, the development of a hepatitis C vaccine and ground-breaking gene therapy trials. New drugs have been pioneered for the treatment of epilepsy, arthritis and HIV, while new techniques for cardiac surgery have made it safer and more effective. Great Ormond Street houses 1,000 parents each week on site. It aims to give a bed for the night to one parent of every inpatient, and both parents of intensive care patients. Number 3, Powis Place, was recently purchased for £350,000 to house parents of children in the Intensive Care Unit. |
